STRETTON-on-the-FOSS, a parish forming a detached portion of the Brails division of the hundred of KINGTON, county of WARWICK, 3 miles (W. S. W.) from Shipston upon Stour, containing 410 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with that of Ditchford annexed, in the archdeaconry of Gloucester, and diocese of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £11, and in the alternate patronage of the two Coheiresses of the Rev. W. Hawes. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. The old Roman Fosse-way passes through the parish, also an unfinished rail-road. There is a spring in the neighbourhood, the water of which is slightly impregnated with salt. Ditchford friary is divided into three farms, but there are no remains of its ancient chapel.
