SUNDERLAND-BRIDGE, a township in that part of the parish of AUCKLAND-ST-ANDREW, which is in the south-eastern division of DARLINGTON ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 3 miles (S. S, W.) from Durham, containing 204 inhabitants. It is situated between the river Wear and Croxdale water, the former being crossed by a bridge on the great north road. On the manor of Butterby there are saline and sulphureous springs.
