SUTCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of BLACK-TORRINGTON, county of DEVON, 5 miles (Nby-B.) from Holsworthy, containing 405 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £ 17. 10. 7.> and in the patronage of the Rev. W. H. Coham. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, has a Norman doorway, but is mostly of later date. There is an almshouse for six poor persons, founded and endowed by Sir William Morice, Secretary of State to Charles II.
