SUTTON, or SUTTON-ST-MARY'S (LONG), a parish in the wapentake of ELLOE, parts of HOLLAND, county of LINCOLN, 4 miles (Eby S.) from Holbeach, containing, with the chapelries of Sutton St. Edmund and Sutton St. James, and the hamlet of Sutton-Bourne, or Sutton St. Nicholas, 3955 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £40, and endowed with £400 royal bounty. The Rev. T. L. Bennett was patron in 1816. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a fine structure, with an ancient stone steeple, and a lofty spire covered with lead. There is a place of worship for Independents.
