SUTTON (LONG), a parish in the hundred of SOMERTON, county of SOMERSET, 2 miles (S. S.W.) from Somerton, containing 856 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Wells, rated in the king's books at £8. 18. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The river Yeo, or Ivel, is navigable along the southern boundary of the parish. Roman coins, paterae, and other antiquities, have been found in the neighbourhood.
