SWALCLIFFE, a parish comprising the chapelries of Epwell and East Shutford, and the township of West Shutford, in the hundred of BANBURY, and the hamlets of Sibford-Ferris and Sibford-Gower, in that of BLOXHAM, county of OXFORD, 6 miles (W. S. W.) from Banbury, and containing 1798 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £7. 9. 4, and in the patronage of the Warden and Fellows of New College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. One-third of the sum of £72. 15. per annum, arising from the rent of certain land, bequeathed by an unknown individual, is paid in support of a school, and the residue for other charitable purposes.
