SWINBURN, a township, joint with Colwell, in the
parish of CHOLLERTON, north-eastern division of TINDALE
ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 7 miles (N.)
from Hexham. The population is returned with Colwell.
It is bounded on the west by a rivulet of the same
name, tributary to the North Tyne. There is a domestic
Roman Catholic chapel at Swinburn castle, a handsome
stone structure belonging to Ralph Riddell, Esq.
