TANWORTH, a parish in the Warwick division of the hundred of KINGTON, county of WARWICK, 4 miles (N. W. by N.) from Henley in Arden, comprising the liberty of Monks-Riding, and containing 1993 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £6. 13. 4., endowed with£200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Earl of Plymouth. The church is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. The Stratford on Avon canal passes through the parish. Two charity schools, attended by eighty children, are supported out of the proceeds of several charitable bequests, amounting to £ 80 per annum.
