THEBERTON, a parish in the hundred of ELYTHING,
county of SUFFOLK, 4 miles (N. E. by E.) from
Saxmundham, containing 557 inhabitants. The living
is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk,
and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at
£26. 13. 4, and in the patronage of the Crown. The
church is dedicated to St. Peter. The parish is bounded
on the east by the North Sea. There are the ruins
of an ancient castle upon the coast.
