THORNTON, a parish in the hundred of BUCKINGHAM, and county of BUCKINGHAM, 4 miles (E. N. E.) from Buckingham, containing 78 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, m the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £11. 16. 3., and in the patronage of Sir T. C. Sheppard, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. William Bredon, who died rector of this parish in 1638, was celebrated for his skill in calculating nativities, and had a share in composing Sir Christopher Haydon's Judicial Astrology.
