THRIMBY, a chapelry in the parish of MORLAND, WEST ward, county of WESTMORLAND, 9 miles (N. N. W.) from Orton, containing 62 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Carlisle, endowed with £800 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Morland. The chapel, dedicated to St. Mary, was consecrated in 1814, having been rebuilt, together with a school-house, by the Earl of Lonsdale. The school was founded, in 1684, by Thomas Fletcher, Esq., who endowed it with a rentcharge of £ 10, for teaching eight children.
