TICKENCOTE, a parish in the hundred of EAST, county of RUTLAND, 3 miles (N. W. by W.) from Stamford, containing 126 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northamptonj and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £6. 5. 8., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of John Wingfield, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, was in the earliest style of Norman architecture, but it has been partially rebuilt. Stukeley says, " it is the most venerable church extant, and was the entire oratory of Prince Peada, founder of Peterborough abbey."
