TIDWORTH (NORTH), a parish in the hundred of AMESBURY, county of WILTS, 2 miles (S. W. byW.) from Ludgershall, containing 327 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Salisbury; rated in the king's books at £11. 17- 1-, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Robert Maton, a celebrated divine, was born here about 1607. North-west of the village, on the summit of an isolated hill, is the large earthwork called Chidbury Camp, in form resembling a heart, and enclosing an area of seventeen acres.
