TOCKHOLES, a chapelry in the parish and lower
division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine
of LANCASTER, 8 miles (s.S.W.) from Blackburn,
containing 1269 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual
curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed
With £200 private benefaction, and £800 royal
bounty, and in the patronage of the "Vicar of Blackburn.
The chapel is dedicated to St. Michael. There is a place
of worship for Independents.
