TOLLESBURY, a parish in the hundred of THURSTABLE,
county of ESSEX, 8 miles (E.N. E.) from Maidon,
containing 958 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage,
in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of
London, rated in the king's books at £16. 6..3., and
in the patronage of Sir W. B. Rush, Knt. The church is
dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for
Independents. The parish is bounded on the south by
Blackwater river, and South-Fleet creek is navigable
to this place from the North sea.
