TOLLESHUNT (D'ARCY), a parish in the hundred of THURSTABLE, county of ESSEX, 65 miles (N. E. by E.) from Maldon, containing 665 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, ,and diocese of London, rated in the-king's books at £18. 10. General and Mrs. Rebow were patrons in 1819. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The parish is bounded on the south-east by Blackwater river and North-Fleet creek. Near the churchyard is an ancient mansion-house surrounded by a moat. New House, or White House farm, in this parish, was purchased, in 1635, by the trustees of the charity of Henry Smith, Esq., who, besides his great munificence to almost every town and village in Surrey, left money to buy lands, directing the rents to be distributed among the poorof fourteen parishes, of which this is one.
