TRAWDEN-FOREST, a township in that part of the parish of WHALLEY which is in the higher division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 1 mile (S. E.) from Colne, containing 2307 inhabitants. There are places of worship for the Society of Friends and Wesleyan Methodists. This district, like other forests in the kingdom, was rejected, as of little value, at the time of the original distribution of land; it comprises ten square miles, and manufactures, similar to those carried on in the neighbouring towns and villages, have been established, and are progressively increasing.
