UFFORD, a parish in the hundred of WILFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 2 miles (N. E.) from Woodbridge, containing 629 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £8. 5., and in the patronage of the Rev. Charles Brooke. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, contains a curious font, which has been repaired at the expense of the Society of Antiquaries. Here was anciently a chapel, of which there are now no remains. The river Deben runs through the parish; An hospital for four poor men was founded by Thomas Wood, D.D., Bishop of Lichjfield and Coventry, who endowed it with £30 per annum.
