UFTON, a parish in the hundred of THEALE, county of BERKS, 7 miles (S.W. by.W.) from Reading, containing 350 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £11. 3. if., and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of Oriel College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. There are slight remains of a church, which formerly belonged to Upton-Greys, once a distinct parish, but consolidated with this in 1442.
