WALKERN, a parish in the hundred of BROADWATER,
county of HERTFORD, 4 miles (E. by N.) from
Stevenage, containing 631 inhabitants. The living is a
rectory, in the archdeaconry of Huntingdon, and diocese
of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £20.1. lOf.,
and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of
King's College, Cambridge. The church, dedicated to
St. Mary, contains a curious monument of a Knight
Templar. There is a place of worship for Independents.
A fair for cattle is held on November 5th.
