WALTHAM-on-the-WOLDS, a parish (formerly a market-town) in the hundred of PRAMLAND, county of LEICESTER, 5 miles (N. E.) from Melton-Mowbray, containing 622 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £19. 5., and in the patronage of the Duke of Rutland. The church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, is principally in the decorated style, with portions of earlier date; it has three enriched stalls, and the font presents a curious admixture of the Norman and early English styles. Joseph and George Noble, in 1776, and Thomas Baker, left trifling sums to be applied in support of a school.
