WALTON-in-GORDANO, a parish in the hundred
of PORTBURY, county of SOMERSET, 11 miles (W.)
from Bristol, containing 16.' inhabitants. The living is
a discharged rectory., in the archdeaconry of Bath, and.
diocese of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books
at £9. 15. 5., and in the patronage of P. J. Miles, Esq.
The church, dedicated to St. Paul, is a plain modern
1 building: there are some remains of a more ancient
structure at the foot of the hill occupied by Walton castle,
an octangular pile, embattled and crowned at each angle
with a turret: the principal entrance is on the east, and
the keep, which is octangular, is situated in the centre
of the area.
