WANGFORD, a parish in the hundred of LACKFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 3 miles (S. W, by W.) from Brandon Ferry, containing 63 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, annexed to the rectory of Brandon Ferry, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £9. 11. 8. The church is dedicated to St. Denis. Robert Wright and Joanna his widow, about 1644, bequeathed the respective rent-charges of £30 and £10 towards the establishment of a school for poor children of this parish and those of Brandon, Downham, and Weeting: the former gave also a school-room and house for the master, and the latter certain land to provide for repairs.
