WARMSWORTH, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of STRAFFORTH-and-TICKHILL, West riding of the county of YORK, 3 miles (S. W.) from Doncaster, containing 335 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £6. 10. 10., and in the patronage of W. Wrightson, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Peter; half a mile from it is a steeple, containing a bell. In the neighbourhood are some limekilns. George Fox, founder of the Society of Friends, held his first meetings at this place.
