WEARMOUTH-PANS (BISHOP), a township in
the parish of BISHOP-WEARMOUTH, northern division of
DARLINGTON ward, county palatine of DURHAM, containing
483 inhabitants. It was so called from some
salt-pans which formerly existed here, but have long
been disused, and of which there is not a single vestige.
