WELBOURN, a parish in the higher division of the wapentake of BOOTHBY-GRAFFO, parts of KESTEVEN, county of LINCOLN, 9 miles (N. W.) from Sleaford, containing 489 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £19. 16. 0., and in the patronage of the Earl of Buckinghamshire, The church, dedicated to St. Chad, exhibits fine specimens of the early, decorated, and later styles of English architecture: the tower, which is of very early date, is surmounted by acrocketed spire, in the shape of a sugar-loaf, supported by flying buttresses springing from the angles of the tower.
