WELFORD, a parish partly in the Stratford division of the hundred of BARLICHWAY, county of WARWICK, but chiefly in the upper division of the hundred of DEERHURST, county of GLOUCESTER, 4 miles (W. S. W.) from Stratford on Avon, containing, with the hamlet of Bickmersh with Little Dorsington, 702 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, rated in the king's books at £29. 15. 10., and in the patronage of the Duke of Dorset. The church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is. principally in the Norman style, with a lofty tower crowned with pinnacles. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
