WELWICK, a parish in the southern division of the wapentake of HOLDERNESS, East riding of the county of YORK, 2 miles (S. E. by E.) from Patrington, containing 410 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of the East riding, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £6. 13.4., endowed with £400 royal bounty, and in the patron- age of the Crown. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is principally in the decorated style of English architecture, and contains the remains of a once splendid monument, said to have been removed from Burstall abbey, and bearing marks of high antiquity. There are places of worship for the Society of Friends and Wesleyan Methodists.
