WESTERLEIGH, a parish in the hundred of PUCKLE-CHURCH; county of GLOUCESTER, 3 miles (S. W. by W.) from Chipping-Sodbury, containing 1817 mhabitants. . The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Puckle-Church, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester. The church, dedicated to St. James, is a handsome structure in the later English style, with a lofty tower and stone pulpit. Sir John Smyth, in 1715, gave an annuity of £20 in support of two schools, in which ten boys and ten girls are educated. Edward Fowler, a divine and theological writer of the seventeenth century, was born here.
