WESTON-UNDERWOOD, a parish in the hundred of NEWPORT, county of BUCKINGHAM, 1 mile (W. S. W.) from Olney, containing.420 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Buckingham, and diocese of Lincoln, endowed with a rentcharge of £8 and £200 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Robert Throckmorton, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The parish is bounded on the south by the river Ouse, and contains the ancient seat, now uninhabited, of the Throckmorton family, who have also a neat Roman Catholic chapel here, with a handsome residence for the priest. In this pleasant village Cowper resided for several years during the latter part of his life; and the neighbourhood is supposed to have furnished many of his descriptions of rural scenery.
