WHADDON, a parish in the hundred of MELKSHAM, county of WILTS, 2 miles (N. B. by N.) from Trowbridge, containing 63 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £8. 4. 4., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the joint patronage of the Lords of the Manor. The river Avon, and the Kennet and Avon canal, pass through the parish.
