WHEELOCK, a township in that part of the parish
of SANDBACH which is in the hundred of NORTHWICH,
county palatine of CHESTER, 1 mile (S. S. W.) from
Sandbach, containing 458 inhabitants. There is a place
of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The Grand Trunk
canal passes through the parish, and on its banks are
commodious wharfs and warehouses. Cotton is manu--
factured here, and there is a brewery; but the chief
trade of the place is in salt, of which large quantities
are extracted from the brine found, at. the depth of
sixty yards, on both sides of the river Wheelock.
