WHITCHURCH, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of WORMELOW, county of HEREFORD, 6 miles (S. W. by S.) from Ross, containing 730 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, with that of Ganerew annexed, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £6. 0. 2., and in the patronage of Joseph Pyrke, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Dubritius. There are places of worship for Independents and Wesleyan Methodists. The navigable river Wye runs through the parish. A court leet is occasionally held. Here was formerly an extensive iron forge, but it has been for some years discontinued.
