WHITRIGG, a township, joint with Torpenhow, in the parish of TORPENHOW, ALLERDALE ward below Darwent, county of CUMBERLAND, 1 mile (S.) from Torpenhow. The population is returned with Torpenhow. On a hill, called Caer Mot, are the remains of a square double intrenchment, intersected by the old road from Keswick to Old Carlisle 3 near it is a smaller encampment, defended by a rampart and fosse: there are also the remains of a beacon.
