WIGGENHALL (ST-MARY), a parish in the Marshland division of the hundred of FREEBRIDGE, county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (S. W. by S.) from Lynn- Regis, containing 239 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £12. 10., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is a stately structure; at the east end is an oaken screen, separating what was once a chapel from the rest of the interior. The windows over the arches of the nave exhibit some remains of ancient stained glass, representing the twelve Apostles, and various portions of sacred history. It contains a fine altar-tomb, bearing the arms of Kervile and Plowden, with the effigies of a knight in armour, his lady, and two children. The parish is bounded on the west by the river Ouse.
