WILLOUGHBY, a parish in the Wold division of the hundred of CALCEWORTH, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 3 miles (S. S. E.) from Alford, containing, with the hamlet of Sloothby, 514 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £39- 10. 2., and in the patronage of Lord Gwydir. The church is dedicated to St. Helen. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. Anthony Barnes, in 1728, bequeathed certain land, now producing more than £25 per annum, for teaching and apprenticing poor children.
