WILTON, a parish in the hundred of TAUNTON-and-TAUNTON-DEAN, county of SOMERSET, containing 579 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, and diocese of Bath and Wells, endowed with £400 private benefaction, £600 royal bounty, and £700 parliamentary grant; and in the patronage of George Stone, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. George, was formerly a chapel to the vicarage of St. Mary Magdalene, in Taunton, to which town Wilton forms an extensive suburb. Here was formerly an hospital, built by one of the Bishops of Winchester.
