WINKBOURN, a parish in the northern division
of the wapentake of THURGARTON, county of NOTTINGHAM,
3 miles (N.) from Southwell, containing 159
inhabitants. The living is a donative, in the patronage
of P. Pegge Bnrnell, Esq. The church, a large
ancient edifice, formerly belonged, with the liberty, to
the Knights Hospitallers of Newland, in the county
of York 5 at the dissolution they were granted by Edward
VI. to the family of Burnell.
