WISTOW, a parish in the hundred of GARTREE, county of LEICESTER, 7djr miles (S. E. by S.) from Leicester, containing, with the chapelry of Newton- Harcourt, 307 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £8. 18. 4., endowed wjth £400 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Sir H. Halford, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Winston. The Union canal passes through the parish.
