WISTOW, a parish partly within the liberty of ST-PETER-of-YORK,
East riding, but chiefly in the lower
division of the wapentake of BARKSTONE-ASH, West
riding, of the county of YORK, 3 miles (N. W. by N.)
from Selby, containing 633 inhabitants. The living is a
discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the
Prebendary of Wistow in the Cathedral Church of York,
rated in the king's books at £ 8, and in the patronage
of the Dean of Ripon. The church is dedicated to All
Saints. The river Quse passes near this place. There
is an endowed school in the parish for ten poor boys.
