WISWELL, a township in that part' of the parish of WHALLEY which is in the higher division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 3 miles (S. by E.) from Clitheroe, containing 683 inhabitants. The extension of the manufacture in spinning cotton thread, and the weaving and printing of calico, have caused a considerable increase in the population of this township within the last few years.
