WOLVEY, a parish in the Kirby division of the hundred of KNIGHTLOW, county of WARWICK, 5 miles (S. E. byE.) from Nuneaton, containing 851 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Bishop of Lichfieldand Coventry, rated in the king's books at £6. 6. .5., and in the alternate patronage of the Representatives of the late Mr. Foster and the Prebendary of Wolvey in the Cathedral Church of Lichfield. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, contains a monument, five hundred years old, of the Clinton family, formerly resident here. The river Anker rises in the. parish.
