WONSTON, a parish in the hundred of BUDDLESGATE, Fawley division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON, 5 miles (S.; from Whitchurch, containing 668 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Incumbent, rated in the king's books at £46. 15. 7-., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Winchester. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Eleven poor children are educated for £5 a year, the bequest of John Wickham, in 1779. Wonston is within the jurisdiction of the Cheyney Court held at Winchester every Thursday, for the recovery of debts to any amount.
