WOODFORD, a parish in the hundred of HUXLOE, county of NORTHAMPTON, 2 miles (S. W. by W.) from Thrapstone, containing 572 inhabitants. The living is a rectory in united medieties, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated jointly in the king's books at £22. 9. 7., and in the patronage of Henry Batley, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. In the neighbourhood are three tumuli, near which have been found Roman tiles, fragments of a tesselated pavement, an urn, and two small coins of the Lower Empire, inscribed Constantinopolis.
