WOOTHORPE, a hamlet in the parish of ST-MARTIN-STAMFORD-BARON, liberty of PETERBOROUGH, county of NORTHAMPTON, 6 miles (N. W. by N.) from Wansford, containing 36 inhabitants. A small Benedictine nunnery, dedicated to St. Mary, existed here so early as the time of Henry I., and was united, in the reign of Edward III., to the convent of our Lady St. Mary and St. Michael, at Stamford-Baron.
