WOOTTON-under-WOOD, a parish in the hundred of ASHENDON, county of BUCKINGHAM, 7 miles (N. by W.) from Thame, containing 344 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Canterbury, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Duke of Buckingham. The church, dedicated to All Saints, was repaired a few years since, when a stone spire was added to the tower; and in the Grenville chapel, or south aisle, which was built in 1343, a columbarium has been more recently constructed by the Duke of Buckingham, for the interment of his family.
