WOOTTON-COURTNEY, a parish in the hundred
of CARHAMPTON, county of SOMERSET, 3 miles (W.)
from Dunster, containing 411 inhabitants. The living
is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Taunton, and diocese
of Bath and Wells, rated in the king's books at
£16. 8. 9., and in the patronage of the Provost and
Fellows of Eton College. The church, dedicated to All
Saints, is a handsome structure. Limestone abounds
in the parish, and there are kilns for burning it. A
fair for. cattle, sheep, &c., is held on.September 9th.
