WREAY, a chapelry in that part of the parish of ST-MARY-CARLISLE, which is in CUMBERLAND ward, county of CUMBERLAND, 5 miles (S. E. by S.) from Carlisle, containing 130 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Carlisle, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean. and Chapter of Carlisle. The chapel, dedicated to St. Mary, was consecrated in 1739. A school, erected by subscription in 1760, was endowed by John Brown, in 1763, with £200, which was laid out in land now producing £15 a year, for the education of poor children.
