YARDLEY-HASTINGS, a parish in the hundred of WYMERSLEY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 8-5 miles (E. S. E.) from Northampton, containing 917 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, to which a portion of the rectory of Denton is annexed, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £13. 16. 0., and in the patronage of the Marquis of Northampton. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. There is a place of worship for Independents. North of the church are the ruins of an ancient mansion, once the seat of the family of Hastings, Earls of Pembroke. A fair is held on Whit-Monday. The Rev.- Lye, author of the Saxon Dictionary, died rector of this parish, in 1767- A school, in which about two hundred children are educated, is supported by subscription.
