HORSE-ISLAND, an island, in the parish of CASTLEHAVEN, Eastern Division of the barony of WEST-CARBERY, county of CORK, and province of MUNSTER, 2 miles (S. W.) from Castle-Towns end; containing 7 inhabitants. It is situated in the harbour of Castlehaven, and comprises 57 acres of excellent arable land in a high state of cultivation. There are thin seams of coal, and a loose, friable, brown freestone, which has been extensively quarried for building. On the point of the island is a tower, erected as a landmark for vessels entering Castlehaven.
